Paul Laughter, our Director of Sales for Fairs, Festivals & Expos, knows a LOT about fairs and ticketing, and is happy to share everything he knows with you…you just have to go to FairTicketing.com.
After stints at a record label, as an artist manager and as a software developer, Paul found his true calling when he joined Etix in 2006.
1. Favorite things about working at Etix?
The combination of working with technology and live entertainment. Couple that with the clients I’m working with and you’ve got my favorite things.
2. If you weren’t in ticketing, what would you be doing?
Something related to software development and/or multimedia design and production.
3. What is the biggest change you’ve seen since you first joined Etix?
Growth. I think the staff has more than doubled since I started. This is a testament to our continued dedication to providing great service to our clients–without them, we don’t grow.
4. What’s one piece of advice you would give to a small fair that hopes to grow?
Never be afraid to embrace new technology. Hug it like you love it, I say.
5. What’s the best part of living in the Triangle?
It’s hard to pick just one: the thriving music scene, growing art scene, great restaurants, and, of course, our geography – it’s only two hours to the beach and three hours to the mountains.
6. What inspired you to make your own blog?
I’ve learned a lot over the years from visiting fairs and festivals across the country. These large events are very complicated to produce, and they are all unique in how they conduct their businesses. I felt like it was time to share my experiences in the hopes that others, specifically staff members of fairs and festivals, would be inspired and learn from my observations.
7. Any nicknames?
Yes, but none that I can repeat. 🙂
8. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A music producer.
9. Any hidden talents?
I can make the best mixtape of funky music you’ve ever heard.
10. What are you most looking forward to at IAFE?
Catching up with clients that I haven’t seen in a while. It’s always great to find out what everyone’s up to.
