Rockhouse Partners’ Zack Wright with Saree Miller and Bonnie Miller of Allegan County Fair.

Etix and Rockhouse Partners recently attended the Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions‘ 130th Convention and Trade Show in Grand Rapids, MI. We had great conversations, made new friends, and had a blast hanging out with our good friends from Allegan County Fair. Here are the top 3 takeaways from our time in Grand Rapids.

1. Fairs are anxious to step up their online marketing game.

We went to MAFE to share what we know about online marketing, and the conference attendees were all ears! Even though we had some technical difficulties during our workshop, the audience was very attentive and full of questions. We’re glad that we had the opportunity to provide some simple steps that fairs could use to boost their online marketing efforts.

“Everyone is trying to keep up with new social media ideas. Rockhouse and some of the other techies were great at bringing attendees up-to-date with the variances of social media. These skills will help to make Michigan fairs even stronger in 2015.”
– Saree Miller, Allegan County Fair

2. Regional conferences are the only time you’ll find everything in one place.

National conferences might get more attention, but regional conferences have a whole lot to offer. Besides the huge opportunity to network with other fair personnel and vendors from all over the region, workshops consist of the latest and greatest successes that your peers have experienced. Find out what’s working for the fairs in your area!

“MAFE was a perfect educational experience for everyone. State of Michigan DEQ, MDARD, MSU Extension, and several others were there to handle workshops regarding animals, camping, and all other aspects of a county fair.”
– Saree Miller, Allegan County Fair

3. Michigan fairs know how to have a good time.

If you attended MAFE, you know what we’re talking about. A couple of quick highlights were Unique Motor Sports’ Hospitality Suite hot-wheels derby and prize wheel and Skerbeck Entertainment’s Hospitality Suite, complete with limbo and dancing!

Many thanks to our close friends at Allegan County Fair for showing us a great time!
