4 Takeaways from Pollstar Live!

February 19-21, Pollstar Live! went on rain or shine (or sleet or snow) for it’s second year in the Music City. Despite the elements, we had an incredible time hanging out with familiar and new faces and checking out panels from industry leaders. Here are our four key takeaways from this year’s event.

1. Capitalize on the Afterglow Effect

34% of a festival’s social media conversations occur after the event has ended, according to research by Live Nation. While this isn’t news to us, it reinforces the idea that, although the tour buses may have taken off, your show isn’t quite over yet. The afterglow period is a prime time to grow your list, engage fans, make some last-minute merch sales and more.

2. A Data Driven Industry

From signing bands to deciding on touring routes, data isn’t just nice to have, it is a necessity. This leaves plenty of opportunity for bands and their representatives to work with venues to share, analyze and utilize data to sell more tickets and fill more seats.

3. Sponsors Seek Exclusive Content

All major sponsors now expect engaging videos, images and more that they can premiere. 4. Festivals Bring in the Big Bucks for Promoters and Communities

Lately, there has been talk of festival saturation, but Live Nation isn’t worried. They commented that 2014 was the biggest year for ticket sales that festivals have ever seen. Not to mention, the economic impact on communities—both rural like Bonnaroo and urban like ACL Music Festival—is evident. For example, festivals are hosting more job fairs to hire staff and support the local community.
