We enjoyed another great Arena Management Conference in Long Beach, CA this week. Thank you to the IAVM team for putting together an amazing conference; we’re already looking forward to next year!
While at the conference, we met a lot of good folks and checked out a variety of panel sessions.
Here are our top 3 takeaways from #AMC2014:
1. “Be real. Be relevant. Be scalable.”
As part of a larger conversation focused on ways to take the ‘friction’ out of event experiences, keynote speaker Greg Economou shared tips on defining the values and brand of an organization, noting an important reoccurring theme: organizational communication. Read Greg’s article at VenuesToday.com.
2. Use mobile to connect with fans.
Jim Cheshire (AVAI Mobile Solutions) and Dennis Scanlon (Etix) discussed mobile and the opportunity we have to get to know fans in a whole new way by engaging with them at the venue during an event. A typical ticket purchase involves interaction with one individual who often purchases multiple tickets (three on average), thus leaving us with a few unknown ticket buyers. With mobile technology, we can gain insights on more of the event attendees, not just the person who clicked the purchase button. Growing your data and audience by 2/3 is a massive win.
3. Get out of your comfort zone!
A big theme of this year’s AMC focused on diversity and networking. Whether you’re a ‘Baby Boomer’ or ‘Millennial,’ we must not be afraid to put ourselves out there and network (even if it’s outside of our comfort zone) if we want to survive in today’s industry.
