This year’s Carolina Regional Ticketing Association Conference was one for the books. Both the planning and content were superb, and it was great to have such a large crowd of local industry professionals come out to participate and support the CaRTA organization. Without further ado, here are our top five takeaways from this year’s conference.
1. CaRTA is alive and growing.
Nearly 100 strong, the community is inspiring. It was great to be part of good conversation, and the presentations were relevant and informative.
2. Customer service is king.
In the words of Peter Wallace (right) of the Durham Bulls, “All of your employees should be empowered to make a customer experience a memorable one.” Regular check-ins with staff will help keep this responsibility in-line with management expectations and improve the customer experience for all patrons.
3. The new North Carolina tax laws were a lively source of discussion.
Two experts spent time answering questions about the N.C. Admission Tax, which opened the floor to some lively discussion. I think we are all interested in seeing how the tax will change in the coming year.
4. Being informed is the key to protecting ourselves against fraud.
Ryan Warner and Leslie Bradford showed us that some simple checks-and-balances can go a long way toward curbing fraud in your box office. Diligence is key!
5. PCI DSS is the future of card compliance.
John Morris (right) and Bob Seaton (left) spoke to attendees on the Payment Card Industry’s Data Security Standard (or PCI DSS), covering what PCI DSS is, how this standard should be implemented in the box office and how the coming EMV (Europay/Mastercard/Visa) spec for Chip & PIN cards is closer than you think (a requirement in 2015).
Bonus: Raleigh is the perfect place for INTIX.
Let’s make it happen!
